For fans of Guy Ritchie ’s particular brand of action cinema, the news that the “Snatch” and “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” filmmaker was moving into the live-action Disney remake world with this year’s “Aladdin” might have been bit worrisome. What about the next “RocknRolla”? Never fear, because Ritchie has already teed up his first post-“Aladdin” film, and if a first look is to be believed, he’s back in his classic crime wheelhouse. Previously known as “Toff Guys” and “Bush, ” Ritchie’s “ The Gentlemen ” will see the British filmmaker teaming up with mini-major STX Entertainment, which showed off a first look at the film during its Tuesday morning CinemaCon presentation. And it’s vintage Ritchie: a crime thriller with plenty of laughs, a majorly stacked cast, and a few gags that might require a bit of a translation across the pond. The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant, Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell, Henry Golding, Jeremy Strong, and Michelle Dockery in a drug-infused, crime-laden tale about a “very British drug lord” intent on selling off his fortune, and having plenty of trouble doing it. The first trailer showed off Ritchie’s sprawling cast of interconnected characters, all of them dabbling in different bits of the drug trade and having a hell of a time while doing it. While Ritchie was not on hand for the festivities, stars Hunnam (who also starred in Ritchie’s “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword”) and Golding were in attendance, and they joined STX head Adam Fogelson to chat a bit more about a film that sees fit to return Ritchie to his roots. “When I read the script, it’s sort of vintage Guy Ritchie, ” Hunnam said. “I grew up on ‘Snatch’ and ‘Lock, Stock, ’ so when he sent me this script and invited me to be a part of it, I just jumped at the chance. ” Golding echoed that same sentiment, adding, “He’s got such an iconic way about him, he really sort of created a lot of that sort of genre and camera movement. ” One other classic Ritchie-ism also on display in “The Gentlemen”: a real affection for improvisation, collaboration, and sometimes just tossing out the script wholesale. “He’s very sort of immersive in his process, he needs to be there on set with his actors to fully realize, even though he’s written the script, to realize what it’s gonna be, ” Hunnam said. “It evolves very, very rapidly through the course of the day. It’s really remarkable to watch him work in real time. There’s many scenes in this film that were excellent on the page, but the entire thing got thrown out in the morning and he just starts writing and we started improvising and playing … and the whole thing has been reimagined. ” Hunnam added, “It’s kind of a challenge, as actors, often we’re very process-oriented, we come with a very clear idea of what we want to do when we arrive. But Guy sort of forces you to be much more fluid, part of that process is what creates the amazing energy that he has in his films. … There’s some sort of weird alchemy to his filmmaking, he’s deeply collaborative and allows everybody to imbue the project with their own philosophy, their own worldview, and yet it goes through the Guy Ritchie filter. ” STX Entertainment will release “The Gentlemen” in 2020. The film follows a wealthy man who wants to sell off his marijuana business but the rival gangs & mobsters are trying to steal/sabotage the business & of course kill off the man himself. The film starts off with Fletcher who tells the story like that of a screen play pitch, but this film has more layers than an Onion as more & more revelations to the story start to unfold.
I found the film to be pretty entertaining & enticing. The film features the typical gangster elements seen in other films of its type, mixed in with some humourous & dark moments too. The dialogue & witty banter heard in the film was good. The story telling kept you locked in from start to finish.
While the film is solid, there is a lot of details & plots points going on so prepare yourself when watching as it has many layers to the overall synopsis.
Overall a solid crime thriller. 8/10.

Guy Ritchie has always been hit or miss with me especially in recent years but it is safe to say that this film is arguably his best and definitely up there with Lock Stock and Snatch.
It does take maybe 20 minutes to get going and get great but once it does, it's fantastic. It's hilarious and a great intelligent crime film.
Everyone is terrific here. All delivering great performances. For me the stand out was Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell who provide some of the best moments of the film. But Charlie, Matthew and Henry and the rest all delivering awesome performances.
It's a very creative and stylish film and I wouldn't say there are many flaws in the film. It's a story which gets a fresh and unique take on it and Guy Ritchie really out did himself here.
Also "old McDonald had a farm" is used hilariously here. That being said it is seriously worth watching.

Perfektní dialogová hra s typickými Ritchieovskými prostřihy a hrátky s vyprávěním a k tomu všemu opět naprosto našlapaný soundtrack. Strhlo mě to neskutečně a přistihl jsem se, e jsem si vlastně přál, ať to ještě nekončí. Nebojím se napsat, e jde o jeden z nejlepších filmů, co jsem mohl vidět a nejspíš i pro mě nejlepší počin Guye. Chci to vidět znovu a hned! Zabydlel ji zábavnými postavami ve stylových oblecích a obsadil herce, kteří si své role naplno vychutnávají. Ať u jde o Charlieho Hunnama, jen naštěstí po konci Sons of Anarchy nezapadnul, Hugh Granta, který jako kdyby dostal reijní pokyn „hraj Al Pacina“, sympaťáka Colina Farella nebo Michelle Dockery, na její postavě je krásně vidět kontrast elegance vysoké společnosti a hrubosti organizovaného zločinu. Během dvou hodin stopáe toho Ritchie stíhá odvyprávět tolik jako málokdo, nešetří reijními nápady a sype z rukávu jednu zábavnou repliku za druhou. (28. 1. 2020) hroubek Guy Ritchie je zpět mezi gangstery a mafiány, a je radost na to koukat. Gentlemani jsou pecka, která připomene, kde Ritchie začínal a kam se poctivou prací dostal. A znovu zopakuji, e je radost na to koukat. Ritchie to do nás pere pod tlakem, a je zázrak, e nám z toho během úvodních minut nepraskne hlava. Tempo je přímo vraedné, jeden luxusní dialog střídá druhý, do toho perfektně nastříhané montáe a spoustou luxusní záběrů, scén a hlášek. A to mluvím o úvodních cca dvaceti minutách. Ritchie nedá celý film nohu z plynu, ba naopak ještě zrychlí. A já jsem si to jako divák uíval. Film je toti mnohem chytřejší a promyšlenější, ne se můe na první pohled zdát. Neustále překvapuje, má nespolehlivé vypravěče, a je hodně vtipný a perfektně vyuívá černý humor. A je vidět, e to bavilo všechny, kdo se na filmu podíleli. Matthew McConaughey si svou roli uívá, a je opravdu moc dobrý. Charlie Hunnam předvádí opět skvělý herecký výkon a s Ritchiem si sedli. Michelle Dockery nemá tolik prostoru, ale jakmile se objeví, tak si krade prostor pro sebe. Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan a nebo Henry Golding dokazují, e jsou opravdu dobří herci, kteří si dokáí uít své postavy. Největší pozornost si přesto ukradli dva jiný pánové. Hugh Grant takovouto roli snad nikdy neměl a zahrál jí famózně. A Colin Farrell je výborný a jeho postava je tak luxusně zahraná, e bych si s ní dal samostatný film. Ritchiemu se povedlo, e film vypadá draší, ne ve skutečnosti byl. A v neposlední řadě se dost často mění prostředí a ve filmu se neustále něco děje, take zde není prostor pro hluché místo. Osobně jsem hodně spokojený a těším se a to uvidím znovu. Gentlemani mě hodně příjemně překvapili a v kině jim to moc sluší. (3. 2020) zipper111 Zvyšujeme sázky, u ádní pouliční zlodějíčci, tohle je jiná liga, dokonce i jinej sport. A king is back! Třetí nejlepší film Ritchieho. Konečně se zase vrátil do vod, v kterých umí tak dobře plavat. A naplno. Vcelku zamotaný příběh je tu převyprávěn neskutečně cool Hugh Grantem v jeho moná ivotní roli slizkého novináře. To byla spolu s geniálně zahraným Farrellovým koučem ta nejlepší postava. Dobře si to dává i Hunnam a král McConaughey, který je sice slabší odvar Brick Topa ze Snatche, na druhou stranu má docela říz a je vidět, e to je přesně ten gentleman, který můe vládnout trhu s trávou v Británii. Celkově tento film není tak přízemní, špinavý a nekompromisní jako jeho dva geniální předchůdci (Snatch a Lock, Stock... ) a proto se jim svým způsobem nikdy nemůe úplně vyrovnat. Ale je to bomba a já bych si to vpálil klidně hned znovu. A vy si to dejte taky, stojí to za to! 5* (19. 2020) Helmutek Film vysokýho tempa a neuvěřitelnýho spádu, přesto mi ale nějakou dobu trvalo, ne mi to došlo a ne jsem si na to zvyk - to hlavní se toti odehrává v rozhovorech, mezi větama a vlastně i v hlavách a fantazii jak herců, tak diváků; vizuál tady jen slouí a doplňuje repliky, ne naopak jako obyčejně. Ta forma, ve který se film odvíjí podle Grantova vyprávění, je ale skvělá - člověk si nikdy nemůe bejt jistej, jestli se vypravěč u náhodou nenechal moc unést nebo jak moc si co přibarvuje, přesto je to ale srozumitelný a příběh konzistentně graduje a do doslova strhujícího finále, který je nakonec ještě promyšlenější, ne by se dalo čekat. Ty twisty a vraedný tempo dialogů, naráek, vtípků a odkazů je tolik, e si myslim, e ten film rozhodně nemůe bejt pro kadýho - tomu ale, koho konverzačky bavěj, se to musí líbit. U hodně dlouho jsem nezail sál, kde by se lidi filmu skutečně a opravdově smáli - ne proto, e by se na plátně odehrávala nějak řachanda, ale čistě proto, e se tim filmem bavili a uívali si ho. Úasnej byl soundtrack, úasný byli herci (Conaughey, Grant, ale i Farrell(! ) a Hunnam), a úasný byly i brutálně bizarní scény (Farrellův nábor dětí v bistru, příchod Batolat do pěstírny, scény s padajícíma lidma, Grantova vynucená návštěva u Hunnama, dabování rozhovoru na fotbale, celý finále a po poslední klapku... ) - tohle všechno ve spojení s atmosférou (především) verbálních soubojů, kde navrch má kadou chvíli někdo jinej, tohle všecho dohromady dělá film tak opravdově zábavnej, e by byla obrovská škoda nechat si ho ujít.
